Home Economics STEM project
8th Apr 2014
Northern Ireland's farming and food industries have been identified as areas that have the biggest role to play in terms of growing our economy. As a result, Home Economics in the curriculum has a pivotal role in supporting young people as they prepare for careers in these key areas and, as such, has much to offer in terms of contributing to the STEM project...
Pupils had the opportunity to learn
• about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet;
• that the Eatwell Plate illustrates a healthy balanced
diet;
• that food labels are a useful source of information
designed to protect consumers;
• how marketing and advertising can influence
consumer choice; and
• practical skills in preparing healthy cheese snack
alternatives.
