Musical Notes

Welcome to our new intake of Year 8 pupils, Katie Mageean and Gerra McGrattan who have decided to take up the challenge of playing a woodwind instrument. Brendan McNamara, Rose Magee and Conor Conlan will be playing a brass instrument.

Our two members of peripatetic staff, (Mr Dawson and Mr Loughead), provide individual and group tuition in both brass and woodwind. Pupils are tutored for graded examinations through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

All of our pupils are encouraged to take part in extra- curricular activities and new members are always welcome.

Welcome back to last year’s pupils- Natalie Ennis on flute and Niamh Arthurs on trumpet are pictured in the slideshow on this page.

Congratulations to flautist, Erin Fowler, who successfully passed her Grade 2 Associated Board Exam with Merit in June. She is already studying hard to sit her Grade 3 exam next June. Erin also appears in the slideshow.

Thanks also to Erin for providing the Communion instrumental during the Opening of the School Year Mass, which was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church on Friday 27th September. Rev. Father Mulholland and past pupil, Rev. Dominic Mc Grattan who was ordained Deacon at the Pontifical College in Rome, April 2013 made the event a very special occasion in the life of the college.
