Curriculum Overview

St. Columba’s offers a modern, engaging and exciting curriculum that has been designed to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities.

At Key Stage 3, pupils full the full range of academic subjects as well as a comprehensive programme of PSHE, Citizenship and Employability (this extends through KS4 as well). All of our pupils complete the CCEA assessments in Communication and Use of Mathematics. We are a pioneering school in the use of ICT, with all pupils achieving a formally accredited level from CCEA and producing a cross-curricular portfolio of ICT work.

The curriculum is complemented by our Learning Support provision and by after school classes in key areas, particularly Mathematics. In addition, a Homework / Study club is available to all pupils in the Library both at Lunchtime and after school from Monday – Thursday each week.

At GCSE Level, we fully meet the targets of the Entitlement Framework, supported by our partner organisations and membership of NDALC, our local area learning community. All pupils have equal access to the wide range of subjects on offer.

In Years 11-12, pupils may further extend their learning by availing of twilight course in Engineering and Hospitality, offered by the South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and North Down Training (NDT).
